What happened to blogging?

Is it just me or did blogging fall by the wayside after Twitter and Facebook blew up in a big way? As I type my current Facebook status reads: Jenice…is wondering the way of blogging. Do people read them anymore? Is Twitter the “new” way to tell what’s on your mind or just a supplement? What will next year’s outlet be? Seriously, what are your thoughts on blogs. Embarrassingly I have way too many that I don’t update nearly enough.

See, I chose to first ask this question on Facebook. Not on my blog. There was a time when the blog comments here were very engaging. I was mostly on myspace at the time as my other social media outlet and hated using it. Pretty much felt like a big high school hallway so I limited it to just for my photography business.

I moved on to Facebook surprisingly because of my job. We were on the brink of integrating how we used social media in our work.  Then one person found me, then another, then somehow friends of friends of friends wanted to add me and I’ve ended up with nearly 700 “friends.” The quotes around friends is not meant  to be snide, it just happens that I probably am really good friends with a handful of the people I’ve befriended on Facebook. However SEVERAL of them have helped me in one way or another or vice versa. Very useful thing, Facebook…

But I remember the geekish thrill and excitement I had when I was ready to post my next blog entry. Then one day it stopped. Why is that? Boredom? Or just a progression of all social media…on to the next thing. I’m torn between several blogs that need updating. This was my very first blog so I’m quite partial to it. But I wonder if my readers are out there anymore anyway…as humans we naturally just, well…move on.

Facebook anyone? Why can’t I stop?

It all started with work. They have us using Twitter and Facebook a lot at my job. I guess it’s newspaper media’s last ditch effort to connect to the world. Anyway it just morphed from there.

Facebook and Twitter have become my coffee and cigarette. Not that I’m a big user of those vices but the comparison is pretty spot on. And ever since I bought this blasted iPhone, I am on the social network high all day, everyday. In fact, I’m typing this from the WordPress ap! What have I become? By the way, if you have a Facebook, add me and find me on Twitter @Jenice78. He he.

I’m not rich, but I’m not helpless…

And that is why I think I have had problems with who I’m voting for in this election.

Today I stumbled upon Pat Dollard’s blog, and forgive me if you have heard of him because I haven’t. That probably makes me leaps and bounds behind. Anyway, I read a few posts, left comments and found people there welcomed new opinions though they warned that they are not PC or shy in their approach in any way. In response to one of my comments, I was directed to this man’s letter and it pretty much explains why I’m not swayed on Obama. The link I have referred you to was written by a black soldier expressing his disdain for Obama’s views on black America.

I will have to admit, I don’t know the true legitimacy of the letter. I only say that because how can I really know for sure? However, I’m also not implying that the letter is not real. Dollard (again forgive me if you know this already) is a journalist with a background in reporting the world of soldiers fighting for our freedom. I guess I’m just saying draw your own conclusions. But know that I’m convinced. Does that make me gullible or a person with newly opened eyes? I’m not sure.

So November will soon be here and my vote can go either way at this point for one reason or another. But something I keep running over and over in my head is how can there be change when we are constantly reminded of race, race, race?! And I have to say Obama is guilty of doing that. Don’t get me wrong. I’m proud to be a black female, but I guess I don’t agree on using my skin tone as a talking point.  I used to think that with so many mixed-race people in the world, we would slowly stop having a chance to bring up a certain race exclusively. But that is wrong. Obama is biracial and we still consider him as only black. Confession: I do it too. The idea of having a president, for the first time, with black blood in his immediate family was, on first glance, appealing. That was a knee-jerk reaction. But once you dissect things beyond that, color fades (so to speak) and you have to pick through what you think is left.

I’ve done this with Obama. And what is left is still uncertain to me.

It’s not a million but I’ll take it…

So I’m about 40 hits away from hitting 30,000 views. This blog will be a year old in July. Considering the Web site that my company put together last April, I am not doing that bad for a lowly blogger in the middle of like a zillion bloggers. My company’s blog hit a million views the first year it launched.

30,000 isn’t that great. And I know that. But I can celebrate it being that I’ve spent my time here going on and on about everything and nothing and it still managed to hit more than four digits. Now I know that many of you are well on your way to 100,000, however I take my small victories when I can — even when I know that a big hit draw here was from people infatuated with Anthony Micheal Hall, LOL cat fans like me, curious Googlers wanting to know everything about interracial relationships and the pedicure obsessed. These are just to name a few. Below is a list of the most recent searches in my blog stats that gave me a real laugh. There are some real top-notch spellers below. And it also bothers me that just typing prostitution (with nothing else to precursor that word) leads people to my blog!

How to take the higher road…

Deciding it doesn’t matter what an emotionally inept blogger has to say about you. By the end of the day, does it really matter what he or she believes? Blogs are great in that we are able to voice our thoughts to everyone and anyone. And we hear new viewpoints. All of which should be constructive. The blogs I can’t stand are the ones that attack people from just one blog post instead of reading the whole thing. Thanks Nectarfizz for pointing that out and Micky for getting my back. And that’s the cool thing right there. Both bloggers I mentioned are vastly different. And I’m different in many ways from them. But somehow we make it all work over here. Even when we don’t all agree. What we can agree on though is realizing we are not defined by people who don’t have a clue about us.

But because we all just need to laugh. Here is this gem…

Oh no. I’m not PC.

Oh noes! Iz aint PC!

I need to point out this blogger. And may I say this “boomer” knew exactly what he/she was doing when they posted this. And he/she pretty much got what they wanted — I’m talking about it. This is what they are in a tizzy about.

I have to vote for someone…and that someone will not be McCain. Mostly because he’s downright too old. I’m not an ageist. I just don’t think he will be able to handle the stress of the role he will have at hand. Eight years ago? Maybe. Today? Even though I find this guy to be tough as nails and possibly the best to handle wartime, I don’t know if we need another heart-attack.

What’s funny, I’ve been more attacked about the Obama mention. So it’s refreshing to be yelled at about something else! I’m not always PC. And neither are most of you. I would like to know what this person thinks about blacks, Latinos, women, Jews, PETA. What does this person say in the privacy of his/her own home?

Does that make us all stupid? Well, that’s up for opinion. I appreciate someone like this stepping up to call me out on something I said that he/she isn’t thrilled with. But I hope this post will expound their thoughts a little more. Why so bitter?

Anyway, I left a comment over there. And yes. I misspelled a word or two in it due to my moment of “passion.” See. I guess I MUST stupid — and human.
